Is Harvard Business School of the 21st century equal to the Japanese Imperial University 100 years ago?
Harvard Business School, the world-renowned university, is supporting Japan’s Imperialistic invasion and distortion of Korean history by using it as the content of its essential textbooks.
Correct the textbook content and be free from the grasp of Japanese right-wing propaganda!
We believe Harvard Business School is a place for educating world-changing leaders, not Imperialism executives.
However, the recent action of Harvard Business School cast a shadow of doubt on this belief.
The essential textbook of Harvard Business School teaches that Korea improved through annexation by Japan, which is the biased propaganda of the Japanese right-wing. Consequently, the content ignores the painful history of Korea from Japan’s invasion and colonization, including Japanese military sexual slavery, forced draft, exploitation, and persecution.
Moreover, the textbook omits much of 5000 years old Korean history by stating that early Korean history is from the unification of the Silla Kingdom (668). Goryeo is even introduced as a ‘tributary state of China.’
Omitting proud and brilliant Korean history and distorting it as the tributary state of China and Japanese colony stems from the colonial view of Japanese Imperialism history. This idea propagates that the 1910 colonization of Korea was historically inevitable as Japan was relatively superior.
The colonial view claims the Korean race was historically governed by China and had no chance to grow independence to operate as a country. This view was asserted by Japan to falsely justify Japan’s invasion and colonization of Korea as a benefit to the development of Korea.
Korea is a country with a long, brilliant history.

This reflection of Japanese right-wing propaganda is blatant evidence of the Japanese government’s attempt to make the international society officially adopt the right-wing historical view.
Today, Korean culture fans worldwide reach 150 million due to K-pop, drama, movies, and more. Thus, the inclusion of distorted information about Korea in Harvard Business School textbooks can bring a grave problem.
While attention toward Korean culture is extending toward Korean history, erroneous information can create distorted biases toward Korea from global leaders.
VANK believes it is a great concern that the Harvard Business School, the university responsible for educating future global leaders leading world peace and solutions to global problems, is using textbooks endorsing Imperialism and colonial view of Japanese right-wing propaganda.
Future global leaders who will pursue world peace in the 21st century should not learn from pro-Imperialism textbooks.
This case is not the first time Harvard University distorted history.
In February 2021, Professor John Mark Ramseyer of Harvard Law School published an article titled ‘Contracting for sex in the Pacific War' in the international journal.
In the article, he made problematic arguments coinciding with the Japanese right-wing, such as claiming that comfort women were prostitutes who earned a large sum of money and it was the responsibility of recruiters, not the Japanese government or military.
Furthermore, Professor Ramseyer is a Mitsubishi Professor, sponsored by ‘Mitsubishi’ corporation, a representative Japanese company related to a war crime, and awarded the ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ from the Japanese government for promoting the stance of Japan.
In response, VANK on the biggest global petition platform with 31,841 signatures worldwide.
Moreover, Professor Ramseyer’s problematic research was globally reported on American CNN, Associated Press, British Guardian, Independent, and Daily Mail.
In particular, CNN reported ‘high school students hold up signs protesting research by J. Mark Ramseyer of Harvard. The signs read: "J. Mark Ramseyer, are you a 21st century professor at Harvard?
