As the number of Muslim tourists visiting Korea continues to rise, with approximately 1 million annually, and with a growing Muslim population, currently estimated at 75,000 in Korea, it is essential to provide more accessible and convenient halal food options for Muslims living and studying here. As an Indonesian, I understand the importance of halal food, as Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. Many of my friends who are Muslim prefer to stay home and eat their own food because halal options are limited.

While neighborhoods like Itaewon offer a variety of halal food choices, the situation is challenging for those living far from this area. For Muslim students, especially at universities, finding halal food often involves long journeys and high costs, as halal meat stores can be expensive. The lack of halal food options near university campuses makes daily life more difficult for many Muslim students, who would greatly benefit from having convenient and affordable halal food available nearby.

To address this issue, more halal food options are needed, particularly in areas around college campuses and universities. We also suggest that restaurants and food stores put a clear halal sign outside so it’s easier for Muslims to find. It would also be very helpful if Korean map services such as Naver Map, Kakao Map, or even Google added a halal restaurant search feature so both local and international Muslims can find halal food easily. We believe these changes will make life easier for Muslims living and studying in Korea and will help them follow their dietary needs while in the country.

한국을 방문하는 무슬림 관광객 수가 매년 증가하며 현재 약 100만 명에 이르고, 한국 내 무슬림 인구도 약 7만 5천 명으로 점차 늘어나고 있습니다. 이러한 상황에서 한국에 거주하거나 유학 중인 무슬림들이 더욱 쉽게 할랄 음식을 접할 수 있도록 접근성을 확대하는 것이 매우 중요합니다.

저는 세계 최대 무슬림 인구를 가진 인도네시아 출신으로, 할랄 음식의 중요성을 잘 이해하고 있습니다. 제 주변의 무슬림 친구들 중 많은 이들이 한국에서 할랄 음식 옵션이 제한적이기 때문에 집에서 직접 요리하여 해결하려는 경우가 많습니다.

이태원과 같은 지역에서는 다양한 할랄 음식점을 쉽게 찾을 수 있지만, 이 지역과 멀리 떨어진 곳에 거주하는 사람들에게는 접근성이 낮은 상황입니다. 특히 대학에 다니는 무슬림 유학생들은 할랄 음식을 구하기 위해 먼 거리를 이동해야 하는 경우가 많고, 할랄 고기의 높은 가격 때문에 경제적 부담을 느끼고 있습니다. 대학 캠퍼스 근처에서 할랄 음식점을 찾기 어려운 현실은 많은 무슬림 유학생들에게 일상생활의 어려움을 가중시키고 있습니다.

이 문제를 해결하기 위해, 대학 캠퍼스와 같은 지역에 더 많은 할랄 음식점과 음식 옵션을 제공하는 것이 필요합니다. 또한, 음식점과 레스토랑에서 외부에 명확한 할랄 인증 표식을 표시하면 무슬림들이 더 쉽게 할랄 음식을 찾을 수 있을 것입니다.

더불어, 네이버 지도, 카카오 맵, 구글 지도와 같은 한국의 지도 서비스에 할랄 음식점을 검색할 수 있는 기능을 추가한다면, 국내외 무슬림들이 간편하게 할랄 음식점을 찾을 수 있을 것입니다.

이러한 변화는 한국에서 생활하고 공부하는 무슬림들이 자신의 식단 요구를 충족하며 보다 편안하게 생활할 수 있도록 돕는 동시에, 한국이 더욱 포용적인 국가로 거듭나는 데 기여할 것입니다.
