Globalization of Taekkyeon is needed through long-term public promotion and education!

Taekkyeon is an indigenous martial art of the Korean people that originated from martial arts 2,000 years ago and developed into a martial art like Taekkyeon today in the Goguryeo period.

Taekkyeon is a Korean indigenous martial art that is closely related to Korean tradition and emotions.
Taekkyeon is the only martial art that wears "Hanbok" (Chullik) as a player's uniform and training suit among 46 official sports events at the Korean National Sports Festival.
Taekkyeon's game/technical terms are all in pure Korean while there are also events that use English terms.
And Taekkyeon's movement, which is similar to dance, also follows the overall rhythm of Korean culture, ‘the three beats’. These rhythms are similar to the rhythms of folk songs such as Talchum (mask dance) and Arirang, Pansori, and Nongak, and all of these cultures were natural living cultures in everyday life.
In other words, Taekkyeon, which contains Korean culture intact, has become a daily sport and leisure activity, and through Taekkyeon, people's social integration and public health improvement were possible.
Due to these values of Taekkyeon, Taekkyeon was listed as a Korean national intangible cultural asset in 1983 for the first time among Korean martial arts and was listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011.
This Taekkyeon is the most Korean martial art that contains many things about Korea and is the first martial arts Korean Wave star in our history.

However, even though Taekkyeon is a martial arts Korean Wave star, many people around the world do not know the existence of Taekkyeon and its value of Taekkyeon until 2023.
Although Taekkyeon is a Korean martial art that is traditional Korean culture and sentiment itself, Taekkyeon performances are not included in overseas Korean cultural festivals, and most Taekkyeon education is only taught as a short-term "Taekkyeon experience." Therefore, Taekkyeon's presence in the fields of Korean culture, education, and physical education abroad is still insignificant.

Globalization of Taekkyeon is slow due to the lack of requirements such as education centers, curriculum, and festivals that can be promoted and educated in the long run. Now, individuals, associations, local governments, and countries should all come up with measures to promote Taekkyeon in various places in the long run.
1. Let's include regular performances of Taekkyeon in Korean cultural festivals and performances held overseas!
2. Let's create promotional programs that promote Taekkyeon and Korean traditional culture together and actively utilize them!

- Korean culture festivals hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Embassies continue to promote Korean cultures such as Korean food, Hanbok, K-POP, and Taekwondo, and attract the attention of many people around the world. If Taekkyeon performances containing Korean culture are held regularly through festivals and performances, Taekkyeon will be able to quickly spread and draw attention to people around the world who are familiar with K-culture.
- Also, creating promotional programs to promote Korean traditional cultures and Taekkyeon, such as Hanbok and Arirang, will create greater synergy, such as showing interest in each cultural heritage and learning more about it to prevent distortion of Korean history in other countries.

3. Let's establish an educational center or a training center that can provide regular education for Taekkyeon and organize a curriculum on Taekkyeon!
- Taekkyeon is being trained through collaboration with the Korea Education Center and Hangeul School, and the establishment of a training center for individuals and associations, but most of them are only temporary experiences and special lectures. There are not enough places to train Taekkyeon and there is no curriculum. Active support from the state is needed so that Taekkyeon can be steadily educated and established in the world. The government needs to establish training centers/education centers in various parts of the country so that education can continue, and make efforts to organize a curriculum in overseas school classes that can promote "Taekkyeon" well.

Taekkyeon is a traditional Korean martial art that pursues 'consideration', 'harmony', and 'win-win'. To promote Taekkyeon globally is to promote Korean tradition worldwide. Through the value of Taekkyeon, Korea will be able to "harmonize" with other countries and coexist. To connect with people around the world through Taekkyeon and Korean culture, Various people's interests, participation, and national support are needed for the long-term promotion and education of Taekkyeon!

한국의 정서 그 자체인 택견의 장기적 홍보·교육을 통한 세계화가 필요합니다!
‘택견’은 2천여 년 전 무예에서 비롯되어 고구려 시대에 오늘날 택견과 같은 무예로 발전되어 온 한국 민족의 고유 무예입니다.

택견은 한국 고유 무예답게, 한국 전통, 정서와 밀접한 연관을 맺고 있습니다.
택견은 한국 전국체육대회 46개 정식 종목 중 유일하게 ‘한복‘을 선수 유니폼, 수련복으로 착용하는 무예입니다.
또한 영어 용어를 쓰는 종목들도 있는 한편, 택견의 경기/기술 용어는 모두 순우리말로 되어 있습니다.
그리고 춤과 유사한 택견의 움직임 역시 한국 문화의 전반적인 리듬인 3박자를 따릅니다. 이러한 리듬은 탈춤, 아리랑 등의 민요, 판소리, 농악의 리듬과 흡사하며, 이러한 문화들 모두 일상생활에서 자연스럽게 하는 생활 문화였음을 확인할 수 있습니다.
즉 한국 문화를 고스란히 담은 택견은 일상 스포츠, 여가활동으로써 사람들에게 자리 잡았으며, 택견을 통해 사람들의 사회적 통합, 공중 보건 향상이 가능했습니다.

택견의 이러한 가치들로 인해, 택견은 한국 무예 중 최초로 1983년 국가무형문화재에 지정되었으며, 2011년 전 세계 무예 중 최초로 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 대표목록에 등재되었습니다.
이러한 택견은 가장 한국적인 무예이자 우리 역사 속 최초의 무예 한류스타인 것입니다.

그러나 택견은 무예 한류스타임에도 불구하고, 2023년 현재까지 많은 세계인들이 ‘택견’의 존재를, ‘택견’의 가치를 모르고 있습니다.
택견은 한국 전통문화와 정서 그 자체인 한국 무임에도 불구하고, 해외 한국문화축제엔 택견 공연이 포함되어 있지 않으며, 대부분 단기간의 ‘택견 체험’ 정도로만 교육되고 있습니다. 그렇기에 해외의 한국 문화, 교육, 체육 분야에서 택견의 존재감은 아직까지 미미합니다.
장기적으로 홍보·교육할 수 있는 교육원, 교육과정, 축제 등의 요건이 부족하기 때문에 택견의 세계화가 더디게 진행되고 있는 것입니다. 이제는 개인·협회·지자체·국가 모두 한마음이 되어 다양한 곳에서 장기적으로 택견을 알릴 수 있는 방안을 마련해야 합니다.

2. 택견과 한국 전통문화를 함께 알리는 홍보 프로그램을 만들어 적극적으로 활용합시다!

- 문화체육관광부, 대사관 등에서 주최하는 한국문화축제 등에선 한국 음식, 한복, K-POP, 태권도 등 한국 문화를 꾸준히 알리고 있으며, 많은 세계인들의 관심을 끌고 있습니다. 한국 문화를 담고 있는 택견 시범 공연이 축제·공연을 통해 정기적으로 이루어진다면, K-문화를 친숙히 받아들이는 세계인들에게 택견이 빠르게 전파되고 관심을 이끌 수 있을 것입니다.
- 또한 한복, 아리랑 등 한국 전통문화와 택견을 함께 알리는 홍보 프로그램을 만든다면, 세계인들이 각 문화유산에 대해 관심을 보이고, 관련 내용을 더 자세히 알게 되어 다른 나라의 한국 역사 왜곡을 막을 수 있는 등 더 큰 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있을 것입니다.

3. 택견 정기 교육이 가능한 교육원·전수관 설립 및 교육과정 편성이 필요합니다!
- 한국교육원·한글학교 등과의 협업, 개인·협회의 전수관 설립 등을 통해 택견이 교육되고 있지만 대부분이 일시적 체험, 특강 정도에서 그치고 있습니다. 택견을 수련할 수 있는 장소가 부족하며 교육과정이 없는 상태입니다. 꾸준하게 택견을 교육할 수 있도록, 택견이 세계에서 자리 잡을 수 있도록 국가의 적극적 지원이 필요합니다. 해외 곳곳에 전수관/교육원이 설립되어 교육이 이어나갈 수 있도록, ‘택견’을 잘 알릴 수 있는 교육 과정을 해외 학교 수업에 편성할 수 있도록 국가의 노력이 필요합니다.

택견은 ‘배려’, ‘조화’, ‘상생’을 추구하는, 한국 전통 무예입니다. 택견을 세계적으로 알리는 것은 한국 전통을 세계적으로 알리는 것입니다. 택견의 가치를 통해 한국은 다른 나라와 ‘조화’를 이루며 상생할 수 있을 것입니다. 택견과 한국 문화를 통해 세계인과 연결되기 위해서, 택견의 장기적인 홍보·교육이 이루어지기 위한 다양한 사람들의 관심과 참여, 국가적 차원의 지원이 필요합니다!
