Perhaps the most popular celebration of Dao Mau, or Mother Goddess worship, known to Vietnamese people is “hau dong”, or trance ceremony. In the central stage, the medium is dressed up in different colored silk robes to represent different deities, who are believed to bless people with health, luck, wealth, and protection. Around the medium, dozens of worshippers sit cross-legged with eyes wide open, watching the medium’s skillful movements. " Hau dong" was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Humanity's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.

But some individuals in the Hanoi area regard these operations as actions that create profit while concealing cultural treasures. They create the phenomena of "hypocrisy" in order to entice naive persons with indiscriminate judgments, taking advantage of the community's confidence. This happens in a number of locations, including the Guri Line, which encompasses the Sam-bu, Sa-bu, and Jjeon-dong neighborhoods. Negative habits can also be seen in government organizations, temples, and monks' gardens. Some families and individuals even construct shrines inside their houses to beg for money. They appear to feel that their acts are legal because they have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and have gotten licenses.

The management agency's post-evaluation work is insufficient, allowing for the predominance of disguise tactics in the Hadong region. The " hau dong" ceremony should express the Vietnamese people's spiritual and artistic values, as well as ensure the essence of the country in the temples. Some places, however, do not follow official restrictions or international accords.

It is believed that such behaviors would proliferate if the management agency does not take preventive steps. What is more disturbing is the spread of profit-driven cults, which has the potential to contaminate the nation's whole valuable cultural legacy.
